Origin and Development of Sculpture in the South Kosal Region

Abstract
The tradition of making idols and statues in ancient India is very ancient; the art of Harappan civilization is world famous. After this, various dynasties of the historical period like Maurya, Sunga, Kushan, Satavahana and Gupta etc. made art flourish and flourish. Dakshin Kosal has been very special from the point of view of sculpture and statue making in the pre-medieval period. If we talk about the antiquity of statue art in this area, then the statue of Chaturbhuji Vishnu from Malhar in the second century BC is remarkable, that is, we can say that the construction of the statue started here from the second century BC, after that it was continuously expanded.
