Main Article Content
Abstract
India is a country of villages where 79 percent of the population lives in villages. The main source of livelihood of this large population has been dependent on the agricultural economy. Especially if we talk about direct employment of women, then women do agricultural work here, but they have not even got the status of agriculturist. In independent India, employing half of this population and making them economically viable has been no less than a challenge. Most of this population of the country has been living below the poverty line. In such a situation, it will not be possible to accelerate the development of the country without making this population economically prosperous. As a result, many schemes have been implemented by the Government of India from time to time to make rural women financially independent, in this sequence; the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) 2011 has been implemented. In the scheme, there is an attempt to make rural women financially empowered by connecting them with employment. In the present study, an attempt has been made to find out the role of Bihan scheme in the economic development of women of Dhamtari district.
