A Study of Participation in Tribal Panchayat Institutions

Abstract

India is a country of villages. Hence maximum population resides in villages. The success of Indian democracy is possible only when more and more people ensure their participation in the democracy. Panchayat Raj system has proved to be one of the main means of increasing the participation of the villagers in democracy. The Scheduled Tribes could not ensure their participation in the Panchayat institutions due to their long distance in the society.  But over time, as a result of the need and demand of this community, an attempt was made to increase their participation by amending the constitution. The purpose of the present study is to find out what is the status of participation in the Panchayat institutions of tribal society at present and what are the obstacles faced in it. MP for study Interviews were conducted with 100 people living in four gram panchayats under Chhindwara district of K.K. The study shows that there has been an increase in the participation of the tribal class. But right now they need to be more aware.
