Tattooing in Bastar

Abstract

One of the main ornaments of Bastar is the tattoo, which is also called the temporary ornament, because tattooing leads to heaven after death. The tribal society of Bastar considers tattooing as a passport to heaven. The tribal of Bastar believe that a woman without a tattoo cannot go to heaven; this basic feeling is prevalent in the tribal society. The Baiga tribe in Bastar is one of the most tattooed tribes in the world. Tattoos reinforce primitive spiritual concepts as well as physical ornamentation.  Tattoo is the sophisticated form of tattooing. The basic purpose of choosing the subject of tattooing in Bastar is to make the knowledge of the utility (use) of tattooing in Bastar. An attempt has been made to complete this research paper through literary observation from secondary sources.
