Abstract

Baiga tribe is a primitive tribe which has always been residing among the forests. Forests have been the mainstay of their life. The social, cultural, religious and economic aspects of this tribe have been dependent on forests only. At present, many families of this tribe have been displaced out of the forest area due to the forests coming under the control of the National Park and Forest Department. In many areas, the dependence of the Baiga tribe on forests has been affected due to the excessive erosion of forests and people from other areas continuously settling in these areas. The main aspect of the economic base of the Baiga tribe has been the collection of forest produce. But in the present circumstances, there has been a decrease in their forest produce collection.
