Efforts For Independence in Bastar And Merger With Indian Union (1920 to 1947)

Abstract
Bastar has been mainly a tribal dominated area and has been famous for its forest and mineral wealth. Jagdalpur was the capital of this state, the largest among all the princely states of Chhattisgarh. Bastar could not remain without being affected by the reasons which led to the development of national consciousness in India. Here also the voices of discontent were expressed, due to which national consciousness emerged in Bastar. In this way, this region also remained connected with the mainstream of the country. In the Indian freedom struggle, to get rid of the exploitation cycle of the British, the tribals, members of the royal family and landlords of Bastar had blown the trumpet of rebellion. Here, non-cooperation movement, Kakinada session, Quit India movement, the establishment of Congress in Bastar state and highlighting its activities, an attempt was made to show under what circumstances the princely state of Bastar was merged with the Indian Union.
