Abstract

After the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, institutions of local self-government at the rural and urban levels were empowered and given constitutional status. On the basis of these, the Acts of the State were made by the State of Madhya Pradesh and these institutions were given adequate powers. After this, in compliance with Article 243ZD of the Constitution, the District Planning Committee Act was enacted in the state and district planning committees were constituted at the district level. These committees have been given adequate powers to coordinate between the panchayats and urban bodies and to consolidate the plans prepared by the panchayats and municipalities of the district and to prepare the draft development plan for the entire district. In the present research paper, based on the discussion of the provisions of the District Planning Committee Act, the role of the District Planning Committee has been discussed in the context of decentralized planning and coordination in Madhya Pradesh.
