Main Article Content
Abstract
Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder affecting the synthesis of Hemoglobin under stressful conditions. For lack of oxygen, the Red Blood Corpuscles in the blood suffering with this disease assume the shape of sickle, hence the name. This certainly is primarily a physiological problem, like anemia, joint pain, swelling, fevers, and strong weakness, but it causes various psychological as well as social problems too. This paper reviews the extant literature on common psychological and social concomitants (i.e. stress, low self concept, poor interpersonal relationship, reduced enthusiasm of strenous and adventurous, decreased leadership abilities, depression and social stigma.) of Sickle Cell Anemia
