Abstract

Quality is defined as “ the totality of features and characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs” (Bureau of Indian Standards, 1988). Quality can be defined in different terms. In the field of education, when we focus on students, it may be the facilities provided to them, when concerned with teachers it is the teaching –learning process, when we look at the management or parents it is the grade achieved and when concerned with prospective employer, it is the nature of output. (S.B. Advani and S.J. Makhija in Quality Education, 2003). Looking from the four parameters stated above, i.e., student facilities, teaching-learning, grade and output a study of Madarsa Board in Chhattisgarh has been undertaken, which is striving to bring about quality in Madarsa education. Chhattisgarh Madarsa Board was established by an Act Passed by the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in 2007 with a view to conduct primary, secondary and higher secondary examinations at madarsas. Besides, the Board is implementing various schemes for providing student facilities, teachers training, up-gradation and better output in the madarsas. This study is mainly based on the data provided by the Chhattisgarh Madarsa Board in its Annual Report of 2007-08. During the academic session 2007-08 there were 295 primary and 41 pre-secondary madarsas registered by the board spread over 16 districts of Chhattisgarh. On the basis of analysis of data, it can be concluded that student facilities provided by the Chhattisgarh Madarsa Board to the registered madarsas are satisfactory. Orientation Programmes and courses are being undertaken by the Board to enhance the teaching skill of Madarsa teachers is in initial stage, but will foster in future. Finally, the results of various examinations conducted by the Board show that an upgradation of students is in progress.
