Development of Public Consciousness in Raipur District

Abstract

In the year 1857, in the form of freedom struggle against the British in India,
there was a strong revolution for the first time. The revolution was blown by
Narayan Singh, the landlord of Sonakhan Zamindars of Raipur district of
Chhattisgarh region, after his execution, the military rebellion was led by Hanuman Singh.
Congress was established in the year 1885, it contributed immensely in the development of
national consciousness in the region. Besides, the establishment of Arya Samaj, Malini Readers
Club, Chhattisgarh Bal Samaj, Kavi Samaj is notable from the point of view of development
of public consciousness. Pt. Sunderlal Sharma raised the spirit of Swadeshi by establishing
Sanmitra Mandal. Madhav raw Spare brought out a monthly paper named Chhattisgarh Mitra and
contributed in the development of public consciousness by starting a newspaper named Kesari in Hindi.
